There are so many new eye shadow palettes coming out right now that it was hard for me to decide which one I wanted to get first! From the Jaclyn Hill Palette, Naked Heat, Sephora PRO Warm Palette, Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture…it was hard to choose, but when I saw the Kat Von D Shade + Light Glimmer Eye Contour Palette in person at Sephora, I knew that I had to have it.
The warm, shimmery color theme of this palette really makes it stand out. The glimmer and sheen of the colors make it truly unique as right now, many companies are focusing on matte textures. There are actually no matte shades in this palette. Therefore if that is what you’re looking for, check out the original Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette which contains all matte colors. This palette primarily contains warm-toned shades with the exception of the shade Cinder which is a more cool toned, white shimmery color.
I purchased this palette for $49 at Sephora. You can check out the palette here.
Left to right (Quartz, Jasper, Rust, Glacier, Onyx, Cinder, Sterling, Bronze, Copper)
3 Shades at the top (Dune, Dusk, Porcelain)
What I really love about this palette is the color selection. I tend to lean toward warm colors, therefore this palette is right up my alley. I also love the quality and color pay-off of almost every single color in this palette. With the exception of the two foiled colors, these eyeshadows are silky, buttery smooth.
I also love the amount of colors that you get. Not only do you get the 9 standard sized eyeshadows, but Kat also gives you the 3 large colors at the top which in my mind, are extra bang for your buck.
If packaging is important to you, you will love this palette. I can tell that Kat truly put a lot of thought and $ on the packaging of this palette. From the front to the back, it is beautiful. She also makes it very easy to identify the colors that you’re using by placing the names on the back of the palette (which is mainly useful for bloggers, but hey it’s still a nice feature).
The only improvements I would make to this palette would be the two foiled colors. Though they are absolutely stunning in the pan, they are hard to work with when using a brush. I have to really pack on the color to get any good pay off and at times use my finger which gets very messy. Therefore while the colors are usable, the texture could be improved.
I think the Kat Von D Shade + Light Glimmer Eye Contour Palette is truly amazing, especially if you love warm, shimmery colors. It’s a beautiful palette to use anytime of the year and the quality of the colors is awesome. You also get a lot of bang for your buck because for $49, you are getting the standard 9 colors + the 3 larger colors at the top which you can use for different areas of your face. Despite the harder-to-use foiled colors, I would still recommend this palette because it is absolutely stunning and the color selection is amazing.
